Instructions
DIRECTIONS:As the second step in your three-step acne treatment routine, only use Benzac AC High Strength 10% Acne Gel on affected areas. Make sure you wash with a cleanser first, before patting your skin dry. Next, apply a thin film of gel – just once a day – and leave it for two hours. Wash off well with water and pat dry, before applying a light moisturiser. If, after three days, you’ve felt no discomfort, apply in the evening and leave overnight before washing off. After seven days, if there’s no redness or peeling, and your condition has not improved, use twice daily, morning and night.
Unless you have sensitive skin, as a general rule, begin your treatment with Benzac AC Mild Strength 2.5% Acne Gel before moving to Benzac AC Moderate Strength 5% Acne Gel and Benzac AC High Strength 10% Acne Gel. If your condition has not improved after one month, consult your Health Professional.

Generic name: Benzoyl peroxide.
Pharmaceutical Form and Formulation: Gel. Each 100 g contains: benzoyl peroxide. 2.5 g, 5 g and 10 g. Excipient cbp 100 g.
Therapeutic indications: BENZAC MR AC is indicated as an aid in the treatment of acne vulgaris. BENZAC MR AC contains: micronized benzoyl peroxide, which provides penetration into the pilosebaceous follicles, eliminating Propionibacterium acnes, also provides keratolytic and secant action. It is a water-based gel that reduces potential irritation caused by a common benzoyl peroxide therapy. Thanks to its formulation, it is compatible with other topical acne treatments.
Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics: The mechanism of action of benzoyl peroxide is not fully cleared, but its antibacterial action against Propionibacterium acnesis its main mode of action. In addition, patients treated with benzoyl peroxide show a reduction in lipids and fatty acids and moderate desquamation (drying and exfoliating action) resulting in decreased comedones and other acne lesions. Little is known about percutaneous penetration, metabolism, and excretion of benzoyl peroxide, even though it is known that benzoyl peroxide absorbed percutaneously is metabolized by cysteine to benzoic acid and oxygen free radicals which are the ones who finally act at the level of the bacterial cell wall, being responsible for the antibacterial activity. Benzoic acid is excreted as benzoate in the urine. There is no evidence of systemic toxicity caused by the use of benzoyl peroxide in humans.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the component of the formula.
General Precautions: BENZAC MR AC is for topical use only. If the medication is applied excessively, it will not get better results or faster, on the contrary, it can cause irritation, that cease when adjusting the dose.
Restrictions on use during pregnancy and lactation: There are no data on the date of adverse effects during pregnancy or lactation. However the use of the product should be assessed by the physician according to the benefit.
Secondary and adverse reactions:With the use of benzoyl peroxide, rare cases of allergic dermatitis and dryness have been reported. Erythema, pruritus, and burning sensation may also occur at the site of application during the first days of treatment, which disappear spontaneously.
Drug and other interactions: None known to date.
Changes in laboratory test results: Not reported to date.
Precautions regarding carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, teratogenicity and fertility effects : There is no clinical evidence of carcinogenic effects from the use of BENZAC MR AC. So well, benzoyl peroxide has not been shown to be mutagenic (Ames’ test) and no data showing changes in fertility have been published.
Dosage and route of administration: Route of administration: cutaneous. Wash with a cleaner or with mild soap and water, dry thoroughly and apply 1 or 2 times a day covering the affected area.

FORMA FARMACÉUTICA Y FORMULACIÓN:
Cada 100 g contienen:

Excipiente, c.b.p. 100 g.
INDICACIONES TERAPÉUTICAS:BENZACMR AC está indicado como auxiliar en el tratamiento del acné vulgaris.
BENZACMR AC contiene:
• Peróxido de benzoilo micronizado, que proporciona penetración en los folículos pilosebáceos, eliminando el Propionibacterium acnes. Además, proporciona acción queratolítica y secante.
• Es un gel en base acuosa que reduce la irritación potencial causada con una terapia de peróxido de benzoilo común.
• Gracias a su formulación, es compatible con otros tratamientos tópicos contra el acné.
FARMACOCINÉTICA Y FARMACODINAMIA:El mecanismo de acción del peróxido de benzoilo no está totalmente aclarado, pero su acción antibacteriana contra Propionibacterium acnes es su principal modo de acción. Además, los pacientes tratados con peróxido de benzoilo muestran reducción en los lípidos y ácidos grasos y una descamación moderada (acción secante y exfoliante) resultando en la disminución de los comedones y otras lesiones acnéicas.
Poco se conoce acerca de la penetración percutánea, metabolismo y excreción del peróxido de benzoilo, aun cuando se sabe que el peróxido de benzoilo absorbido por vía percutánea se metaboliza por la cisteína a ácido benzoico y radicales libres de oxígeno que son quienes finalmente actúan a nivel de la pared celular bacteriana, siendo responsables de la actividad antibacteriana. El ácido benzoico es excretado en forma de benzoato en la orina. No existe evidencia de toxicidad sistémica causada por el uso de peróxido de benzoilo en seres humanos.
CONTRAINDICACIONES:Hipersensibilidad al componente de la fórmula.
RESTRICCIONES DE USO DURANTE EL EMBARAZO Y LA LACTANCIA:No existen datos reportados a la fecha de efectos adversos durante el embarazo ni en la lactancia. Sin embargo, el uso del producto deberá ser valorado por el médico de acuerdo con el beneficio.
REACCIONES SECUNDARIAS Y ADVERSAS:Con el uso del peróxido de benzoilo se han reportado raros casos de dermatitis alérgica y resequedad. También se puede presentar eritema, prurito y sensación de ardor en el sitio de aplicación durante los primeros días de tratamiento, que desaparecen espontáneamente.
PRECAUCIONES EN RELACIÓN CON EFECTOS DE CARCINOGÉNESIS, MUTAGÉNESIS, TERATOGÉNESIS Y SOBRE LA FERTILIDAD:No existe evidencia clínica de efectos de carcinogénesis por el uso de BENZACMR AC. Así bien, el peróxido de benzoilo no ha demostrado ser mutagénico (prueba de Ames) y no se han publicado datos que revelen alteraciones en la fertilidad.
INTERACCIONES MEDICAMENTOSAS Y DE OTRO GÉNERO:No se conocen hasta la fecha.
ALTERACIONES EN LOS RESULTADOS DE PRUEBAS DE LABORATORIO: No se han reportado a la fecha.
PRECAUCIONES GENERALES:BENZACMR AC es exclusivamente para uso tópico. Si el medicamento se aplica en exceso, no se obtendrán mejores resultados ni más rápidos, por el contrario, puede causar irritación, que cesan al ajustar la dosis.
DOSIS Y VÍA DE ADMINISTRACIÓN:
Vía de administración: Cutánea.
Lavar con un dermolimpiador o con agua y jabón suave, secar perfectamente y aplicar 1 o 2 veces al día cubriendo el área afectada.
MANIFESTACIONES Y MANEJO DE LA SOBREDOSIFICACIÓN O INGESTA ACCIDENTAL:Por las características del producto no presente. En caso de ingesta accidental se recomiendan medidas generales de apoyo.
